We've been here in Honduras for almost 2 months now....seems longer than that! The adjustments are innumerable. I'm just glad it's not a month ago, in some ways it feels like the worst adjustments are over, and the weather is so much cooler now!
Deklin has adjusted beautifully. He LOVES it here. And I can tell a difference in him since Mike is able to spend so much time with him. It makes me so proud watching them together, Deklin's happier than ever.
Honduras is beautiful. We really love it here... Mike likes his job and studying spanish, and it's coming along beautifully for him. Not so much for me, I can't even pronounce spanish words right, let alone think of what to say. I think it amuses the Hondurans, and I know it does Mike. =) Hehe. My favorite thing to do when I get bored and lonely is to walk to town with Deklin. There's so many friendly people that stop and pinch his chubby little cheeks and they always say 'Ohhhh que lindo que lindo!!' (which means 'how cute') And 'gordito bebito!' Which basically means fat, cute little baby. Hondurans love fat people.
But I think now I've found a new passion. I think Mike and I both have.
These perfectly, perfectly beautiful precious little children...I could just weep looking at their pictures. Some of them have very difficult lives, and they're all hungry. One little 5 year old boy walked 40 minutes in the hot sun with 2 of his sisters so he could get something to eat, and be with some people who love him.
This is Dennis & Yoly's ministry. They are truly amazing people, I don't know a whole lot about them, I don't know them well yet.. but they told us neither of them used to even like kids, but God changed them and gave them so much love for each of these kids. There's 43 that come 4 times a week, and they sing with them, play games, read bible stories feed them and give them lots of love. It's amazing to watch, because it's very clear they have a passion for them. They don't even have regular support, people give them money once in a while, but they have to live on very little so they have enough money to buy food for the children. Dennis said the life of George Mueller is a huge encouragement to them.
They're praying for a bigger house so more children can come, and they'd like to have 6 come live with them. They say little kids come to their house every day begging to be able to come and hear stories and play with the other 43 kids, but their place is so tiny, they're not able to take in more kids at this time.
Mike and I couldn't believe our eyes when we watched these kids eat. Some of them ate 3 and 4 times of what we would normally eat at one time. Plate after plate. One little guy had 12 tortillas and I don't know how many servings of rice and chicken. It breaks my heart because they obviously don't get near enough at home, and they're also starved for love. They are the sweetest little kids...so perfectly well behaved. I guess because they have so much respect and love for Dennis and Yolanda and they get fed.
Michelle.
I don't know the last time I've seen a more beautiful child.
I don't know the last time I've seen a more beautiful child.
Mike wants to adopt her. He just loves her.
So here's a little update on our lives and what we've been doing.
We can't WAIT until some of our friends and family can come visit us. Please, make it sooner rather than later! =)
Love you all and miss you so much. <3
